Here We Go.....

It's foggy outside. And cold. But it's warm inside my little trailer, and I've been planning to "do some writing" for a very long time. Teachers, professors, and others, have encouraged me to try my hand at writing. I guess I'm running out of excuses, since here I am, sitting at a Zenbook, trying to think of something brilliant to type.

Today is January 2, 2020, the second day of a new year, and a new decade. It's also just a few days past my 65th birthday. Something about turning 65 feels like I've reached a milestone, I suppose because that was once a day when many people retired from their careers. That doesn't apply to me, as I have been self-employed for over 25 years and cut my work hours several years ago, But I'm still working, and am even in the process of getting rid of my corded tools and replacing them with cordless ones. I am now receiving Medicare, after taking Social Security early, so turning 65 does mean I now have health insurance, something I've had very little of during a career as a self-employed carpenter.

It feels like being 65 puts me in a new category, somehow. The elderly? I don't know. That doesn't feel accurate. I still get around just fine, and can still outwork many people decades younger than me. But the dawn of a new decade, and my new status, whatever it is, have inspired me to take the plunge, pull the trigger, take pen to paper. Or fingers to the keyboard, as the case may be. I'm going to try to post something every week, and make a serious attempt at learning a new craft, while sharing a few thoughts, stories, pictures, maybe some videos. Maybe someone will read it, maybe they won't, but at least I will be writing. If you've found this post, and made it this far, thanks for reading. And Happy New Year!
